Sutton-in-Ashfield Father Fatally Beaten by Son After Cocaine and Booze Binge
Son Attacks Dad in Northfield Close Home
Peter McGarry went on a cocaine and alcohol binge before brutally attacking his 76-year-old father, Malcolm McGarry, at their home in Northfield Close, Sutton-in-Ashfield.
Police rushed to the house in the early hours of 1 December last year and found Mr McGarry unconscious in the living room, suffering serious head and facial injuries.
Paramedics’ Efforts in Vain
Officers and paramedics immediately tried to save him with CPR, but sadly, Mr McGarry was pronounced dead at 2.05am.
Son’s Shocking Reaction and Motive
Peter McGarry, 53, was arrested at the scene. When told he was suspected of murdering his dad, Peter replied incredulously: “My dad? Are you kidding?”
At Nottingham Crown Court, it emerged Peter believed he had attacked a drug-dealing intruder – not his own father – as he was heavily intoxicated on cocaine and alcohol.
Life Sentence for Peter McGarry
