Moped Ram-Raiders Locked Up After Smash-and-Grab Beauty Heist
Gary Parkes and his mate Liam Byrom pulled off a daring moped ram-raid on a Dartford hair salon, smashing through the glass door before making off with £3,000 worth of hairdryers, curlers, and other pricey beauty gear.
Tagged Crook Busted by Ankle Monitor
Parkes, 32, from Frederick Place, Woolwich, was snared thanks to his ankle tag. The electronic monitor, fitted after a previous spell behind bars, provided irrefutable proof that he was at the scene. CCTV and ANPR cameras also tracked the moped’s movements — perfectly matching the tag data.
Parkes pleaded guilty to burglary and was sentenced at Maidstone Crown Court on Wednesday 2 March 2022 to one year and 10 months in prison.
Partner in Crime Also Facing Jail
Co-offender Liam Byrom, 25, without a fixed address, also admitted to breaking and entering. He got a similar 22-month sentence after police found the clothes he wore on the day hidden in a Sidcup property.
Detectives Praise Swift Justice After Intolerable Crime
“Parkes and Byrom caused serious disruption, not just by stealing expensive products but through the damage they caused to the shopfront,” said Detective Constable Dan Bister.
“We’ve quickly brought justice to the victims and will never tolerate this kind of offending. We’ll always hold these criminals to account.”
