Finsbury Park Stabbing: David Odunuga Found Guilty of Murder

David Odunuga has been found guilty of stabbing Brian Edwards three times after a row near Finsbury Park on 19 September 2023. The 53-year-old victim was found injured outside his home in Tollington Park at 4am and died shortly after.

How Police Cracked the Case

Detectives linked a silver BMW X5 left at the scene to Odunuga by uncovering false insurance and registration details. A car key recovered from the vehicle tested positive for Odunuga’s DNA. Further investigations traced his car movements and mobile phone data back to the crime.

CCTV footage tracked Odunuga to a location near the victim’s family home, where Brian’s phone was later found discarded. Police also found a black balaclava and large knife sheath in another vehicle he owned.

Odunuga’s Shady Past and Denial

During the trial, Odunuga admitted changing his name by deed poll to evade traffic prosecution and obtain a driving licence and passport. He claimed a drug dealer had taken his vehicle over a drug debt hours before the stabbing and denied any involvement in Brian’s murder.

Verdict and Sentence Date

David Odunuga, 33, from Brentwood, was found guilty of murder and possession of an offensive weapon at the Old Bailey on 1 and 3 April. He is due to be sentenced at Inner London link="linked" data-wpil-monitor-id="5688">Crown Court on Thursday, 4 April.
