Youths wielding samurai sword murder factory worker in brutal Huddersfield attack
Frenzied Car Park Horror
Robert Wilson, 53, was savagely attacked after asking two youths to leave a factory car park in Huddersfield on January 16, Leeds Crown Court heard. The chilling assault ended with Mr Wilson dead at the scene despite desperate attempts by police and paramedics to save him.
Teen Killers Caught and Locked Up
Kiyran Earnshaw, 18, and Luke Gaukroger, 16, both admitted to the murder. Earnshaw received a minimum 22-year sentence while Gaukroger was handed 16 years and eight months behind bars. The courtroom heard both were heavily intoxicated during the “frenzied and senseless” attack.
Samurai Sword Rampage
The drama escalated when Mr Wilson put his phone to his ear to contact the security firm, prompting Earnshaw to accuse him of filming. Suddenly, Earnshaw produced a samurai sword from his trousers and chased Mr Wilson and his colleagues around the car park.
Audio captured by the remote security firm revealed Gaukroger, then just 15, shouting, “Pass me the shank, pass me the shank,” urgently demanding the deadly blade. Earnshaw struck multiple brutal blows and kicks before handing the sword to Gaukroger, who also dealt severe injuries.
A post-mortem found Mr Wilson suffered at least 100 sharp force wounds, primarily to his head, neck, and upper body.
Family and Colleagues Devastated
Mr Wilson’s wife, Elaine, delivered a heart-rending statement. “His death has been soul-destroying,” she said. She condemned the killers for their cold-blooded attack, adding, “I want you to know you have taken the life of a much respected and admired man.”
Elaine was sickened by receiving an apology letter claiming it was “the worst night of my life” from one of the defendants. “It has shocked me to realise I have such hate,” she added.
Meanwhile, Mr Wilson’s colleague John Badejo was also hurt during the ordeal. Earnshaw admitted wounding with intent over the attack on Mr Badejo and was sentenced to nine years concurrently with his murder term.
