Ex-Cop Lee Ashcroft Caught with Child Abuse Images

Lee Ashcroft, a former Greater Manchester Police officer, pleaded guilty to making indecent images of children. He was sentenced today at Liverpool Crown Court, receiving a 10-month prison term suspended for two years.

Harsh Penalties for Ashcroft

  • Ashcroft got a 30-day rehabilitation order.
  • He must follow a 10-year sexual harm prevention order.
  • He’s required to sign the sex offenders register for a decade.
  • Also ordered: 12 months community service with 120 hours unpaid work.

The ex-PC was due to stand trial but admitted guilt on October 24, 2022, after resigning from the force days earlier.

Shocking Discoveries During Police Raid

Ashcroft was arrested in October 2020 after officers found his mobile and a laptop hidden under a bed during a home warrant. Forensic analysis uncovered an almost eight-minute video showing children in sexual acts, which Ashcroft had accessed.

He confessed to using the dark web for coding forums and transferring money related to cryptocurrency advice. However, the vile footage led to his downfall.

GMP Cracks Down on Abuse in Ranks

Detective Inspector Suzanne Keenaghan of GMP’s Online Child Abuse Team said: “We expect our officers to uphold the highest standards – Ashcroft’s behaviour was utterly unacceptable.”

“His actions betrayed the core police duty to protect the public.”

“We will take tough action on offenders, whether we catch them ourselves or through reports.”

“This depraved abuse is a warning to anyone thinking they can hide behind screens – we will find you and bring you to justice.”

“I urge anyone affected to contact police or partners so authorities can act.”

“And I encourage all officers and staff to report illegal or unprofessional behaviour immediately.”
