Double-Decker Disaster at Paddington Sparks Rush Hour Chaos
Bus Topples Under Low Bridge
Commuters faced havoc this morning after a double-decker bus crashed at Paddington station. The bus’s upper deck was smashed as it tried to squeeze under a low entryway near the taxi rank. The incident, caught on camera, shows the bus roof crumpled beneath the restricted-height access.
Too Tall for the Turn
The crash happened just before 9am as the driver attempted a right turn into a narrow entrance with a strict 3.6-metre height limit. London’s iconic buses stand well over that at 4.5 to 4.7 metres, making the collision inevitable. The height warning signs were clearly visible but the bus still got stuck.
Traffic Nightmare Unfolds
Now, the entrance to the taxi rank is down to a single lane, leaving vehicles crawling through. The bottleneck has worsened congestion, adding misery to the morning commute.
Police Confirm No Injuries But Investigation Underway
The Metropolitan Police say no one was hurt, and only damage to the bus and structure was reported. Officers are working closely with Transport for London and local authorities to assess any structural impact on the bridge. Meanwhile, police remain at the scene, managing traffic and clearing wreckage to ease the jam.
