Ex-Met Cop Guilty of Horrific Child Sex Offences
Former PC Thomas Thorpe, once part of the South Area Command Unit, has been found guilty of shocking child sex crimes at Kingston Crown Court.
Horrific Charges Unveiled
- Three counts of making indecent photos of a child
- Attempting to make a child under 13 view sexual images
- Attempting to make a child under 13 engage in sexual activity
- Attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child
Thorpe was remanded in custody and faces sentencing at the same court on 14 May.
Undercover Sting Exposed Twisted Cop
The court heard how Thorpe carried out explicit online chats with someone he thought was a 12-year-old girl. In reality, it was an undercover officer from West Midlands Police. Over four weeks between November and December 2019, Thorpe sent sexual images to the fake ‘girl’.
He was arrested on 6 December 2019. Police found indecent images of children on his devices, along with the explicit pictures he had sent.
Police React With Outrage
Thorpe was immediately suspended and later quit the Met in September 2022. Chief Supt Andy Brittain slammed his behaviour as “abhorrent” and confirmed action would have seen him sacked if he hadn’t left first.
“People rightly expect police officers to uphold the highest standards. When officers fail, they face consequences through courts and misconduct hearings,” said Brittain.
“The misconduct hearing in May 2023 ruled Thorpe’s actions amounted to gross misconduct and he would have been dismissed without notice.”
