Vicious Kick Kills Homeless Man Trying to Keep Warm
Homeless Man Sentenced for Fatal Attack
Ashley Pace, 35, of no fixed address, was sentenced today at Wolverhampton Crown Court. He pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of 38-year-old Jagdev Singh Lally.
Brutal Assault Caught on CCTV
On 14 April 2020, Pace dragged Mr Lally from underneath his blankets in a shopping precinct where he was trying to sleep. He then kicked the defenceless man repeatedly. One brutal kick landed on Mr Lally’s head with such force it caused irreparable brain damage.
Mr Lally died in hospital after receiving treatment for his injuries.
Evidence Left No Doubt
Initially, Pace denied any involvement. But CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts proved he was the attacker.
Cornered by the evidence, Pace pleaded guilty to manslaughter on 19 November 2020.
Prosecutor’s Statement
“The evidence in this case demonstrated that Mr Lally was forcefully kicked and thereby killed by Ashley Pace for doing no more than trying to keep warm. The attack on him was senseless and completely unjustified,” said 1 Nicholls for the CPS. “My thanks go to the witnesses whose evidence led to his conviction. My thoughts go to Mr Lally’s parents who have been left devastated by the loss of their son.”
