Burglar Nabbed After Swiping TV and Keys While Victim Hospitalised
Nathan Rickett, 35, made a shock move by breaking into a home on Longmead Drive, Bestwood, on 16 May 2022. The victim was in hospital at the time. Rickett pinched a television and a set of keys during his brazen break-in.
Chased by Police, Crook Attempts Escape and Quick Change
But the getaway was short-lived. Police spotted Rickett in Nottingham’s Sneinton area. He bolted and slipped into a nearby house to change clothes, hoping to throw cops off his scent. Not a chance. Officers were hot on his heels and swiftly arrested him.
Shady Pawnbroker Attempt and Forensic Evidence Seal the Deal
A deeper probe uncovered Rickett trying to flog the dodgy TV at a city centre pawnbroker. Trouble was, the telly was broken, so he abandoned it there. A mix of CCTV footage, forensic analysis, and phone records nailed him.
Three Years Behind Bars for Prolific Offender
Rickett pleaded guilty to burglary charges and landed a three-year jail stretch at Nottingham Crown Court on 1 December 2022.
“Rickett is a prolific offender who posed a serious risk to the public so I’m pleased he has now been removed from the streets,”
— Detective Constable Tim Townsend, Nottinghamshire Police
He added: “We trawled through CCTV from multiple sites to secure his conviction. Burglary is a deeply intrusive crime that leaves lasting scars, and no one should feel unsafe in their own home.”
“We are committed to stamping out burglaries before they happen, protecting the public, investigating reports, and bringing offenders to justice.”
