Brutal Ex Attack Leaves Woman Fighting for Sight
Callum Currie, 21, smashed his ex-girlfriend so badly she lost consciousness – all after a six-month romance turned sour. Weeks after their split, Currie went on a booze and drug binge, then hunted her down at her home on 26 July 2021.
He battered her so severely that she was blind for three days, and authorities found a clear shoe print stamped on her face.
Heroes Break In to Save Victim
Thankfully, two brave members of the public smashed their way into the house and yanked Currie off her before things got even worse. The victim credits these heroes with saving her life. So does PC Gordon Doudie of Doncaster’s Domestic Abuse Unit.
“It is remarkable that Currie’s victim escaped with no life-changing physical injuries… I really do thank the two members of the public who helped her that day,” said PC Doudie.
The daring duo were finalists in the force’s 2021 Bravery Awards and won recognition from Doncaster Council for their quick thinking.
Justice Served at Sheffield Crown Court
Police arrested Currie immediately at the scene. Charged with Section 18 Wounding with Intent, he faced court on 8 April at Sheffield Crown Court. The hammer came down hard. Currie was slammed with a 28-month jail sentence plus an eight-year restraining order.
PC Doudie praised the victim’s bravery through the ordeal and court battle. He vowed the case sends a clear warning:
“I hope this sends a message to those who seek to harm those they supposedly love, that justice will be done no matter what.”
