Burglars and Robbers Nabbed: 12 Years Behind Bars in June Crackdown
June was a busy month for Kent’s crime busters. The team of uniformed officers and detectives targeting burglary and robbery racked up prison sentences totalling 12 years and nine months. No excuse for crime in this county!
Serial Burglar Michael Williams Locked Up
Michael Williams, a serial offender, was caught red-handed after breaking into a home near Watling Street, Gillingham, while the owners slept. He made off with tablets, phones, wallets, bank cards, and a handbag.
CCTV footage helped cops track Williams down when he tried to withdraw cash with a stolen card. The 4 years and 7 months behind bars he got at Napier Road prison are set to run alongside another 1 year and 3 months for breaching a suspended sentence. He must serve half his term before parole.
Balaclava-Wearing Thug Threatens Granny in Robbery Spree
Gavin Jarvis from Palmer Avenue, Gravesend, was jailed for 3 years and 4 months on June 27 at Woolwich Crown Court. Wearing a balaclava, he threatened an elderly customer at a newsagent on Livingstone Road, demanding cash from the till.
He scared the cashier with threats of violence before snatching some money and fleeing. CCTV caught him in the act.
“There is no place in our county for people who seek to steal from homes or threaten victims with unlawful violence,” said Detective Inspector Danielle Driscoll, who leads the squad.
30 Arrested and 74 Charges Laid in June Bust
The Crime Squad didn’t stop there. They nabbed 30 suspects for theft and burglary across Kent, Sussex, and Essex.
- Three men, including Radu Rostas and Ionel Anghel, face charges for plotting to steal and fraudulently sell high-value vehicles.
- James Campbell from Tilbury, Essex, was charged with nine burglaries, an attempted break-in, plus two drink-driving counts. He’s remanded in custody.
Detective Inspector Driscoll added, “Our goal is to protect victims and hold criminals to account with solid cases that keep them behind bars pending trial.”
