Man accused of killing schoolgirl ruled unfit for trial

Deividas Skebas stands accused of stabbing nine-year-old Lilia Valutyte to death as she played with her three-year-old sister in Boston last July.

Defendant no-show stuns court

Skebas failed to appear at a crucial hearing on April 17. The judge swiftly declared him unfit to stand trial, shocking those in court.

Trial of facts set instead

A trial of the facts is now scheduled for July 10. Prosecutors will lay out their evidence before a jury, but Skebas won’t have to take part in the proceedings. Crucially, the jury’s verdict cannot lead to a criminal conviction.
