Couple Caught Running Puppy Scam Across UK and Poland
Artur and Joanna Kramer have been hauled into court after raking in thousands by selling misadvertised puppies. The duo shuttled between Poland and the UK every six weeks, importing 10 litters a trip, passing off poorly bred pups for over £1,000 each.
Illegal Puppy Sales Spark Council Crackdown
- The Kramers broke UK law by selling pets without a proper licence.
- They used sites like Pets4Homes and Gumtree to push their pups.
- Council trading standards and animal welfare teams finally stepped up enforcement after warnings were ignored.
Charges Stack Up Against Puppy Fraudsters
The couple pleaded guilty to:
- Unlicensed puppy selling
- Money laundering of over £16,000
- Illegal animal transportation
- Additional charges: Artur for unauthorised transporter, Joanna for illegal import of 43 dogs
They face sentencing at Southampton Crown Court on 16 March 2022, where prison time, unlimited fines, and future bans on pet trading loom large.
Council Warns Buyers: Spot The Scams
“The rules around the sale of pets are important to protect animals and owners, so I’m thankful to council colleagues for pursuing enforcement action,” said Councillor Daniel Fitzhenry, Leader of Southampton City Council. “The advice for anyone buying is to always watch out for extortionate prices, monitor sellers’ listing history, and only buy from reputable, licensed businesses.”
