Man Attacked with Axe and Dogs in Daylight Horror
Umran Araf, 37, from Bretton, Peterborough, launched a terrifying axe attack on a victim who had come to collect a compensation cheque on 18 June last year.
Calm Visitor Turned Victim of Brutal Axe Assault
The victim was initially calm, sitting on a sofa when Araf suddenly fetched an axe. He struck the man twice on the head, causing deep cuts above his left eye and on his forehead. The brutal assault continued with a blow to the victim’s right elbow.
Dogs Join Attack as Victim Flees for Life
The victim tried to escape but was bitten on the waist by Araf’s two dogs. Still armed with the axe, Araf chased the man down the street, terrorising the neighbourhood. Shouting for help, the victim collapsed, supported by members of the public until paramedics arrived.
Araf Arrested and Sentenced to Eight Years for Violent Attack
- Araf was arrested the same day and charged with grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of a bladed weapon in public.
- He denied the charges but was found guilty after a two-day trial.
- The judge sentenced him to eight years behind bars on 4 January.
“This was a horrific and nightmarish assault,” said DC Colin Avis. “The victim seriously feared for his life during the axe attack, dog bites, and chase. It happened in broad daylight near a primary school, putting children and parents at risk.”
“We take possession of offensive weapons very seriously. Thanks to those who helped the victim when he collapsed.”
