Exeter Murder Shock: Azam Mangori Jailed for Killing Lorraine Cox
Lorraine Cox, 32, was brutally murdered in Exeter on 1 September. Azam Mangori, 24, of Stoke-on-Trent, was found guilty of her murder after confessing to preventing her lawful burial.
Horrific Crime Uncovered at Exeter Crown Court
Mangori kept Lorraine’s body in his flat for a week before “panicking” and dismembering her, the jury heard. Police described the crime as “deeply disturbing” and “horrendous.”
He tracked Lorraine through the streets and convinced her to visit his flat above a kebab shop. Body parts were discovered in an alley near the flat and woodland six miles away.
Cold Lies and Chilling Deception
Mangori, an Iraqi Kurd refused asylum in 2018, claimed he panicked over fears of deportation. He said Lorraine drank spirits and used drugs before losing consciousness and dying. He admitted cutting up her corpse because he didn’t know how to dispose of it.
Prosecutor Simon Laws QC slammed Mangori as a “fluent and determined liar,” insisting he smothered Lorraine with a T-shirt.
After the murder, Mangori used Lorraine’s phone SIM to message her partner and friends, faking that she was alive. He even watched videos on amputation before her disappearance.
Cold-Hearted Cover-Up Attempts Caught on Camera
CCTV showed Mangori buying bin bags, tape, a suitcase, and an air purifier to mask the smell of decay. He also bought a trowel after researching “how to dig a grave by hand.”
Mangori described the aftermath as “a living hell.” Judge Justice Garnham confirmed sentencing will take place on 7 April, with Mangori already remanded in custody.
