Ashford Man Jailed for Ignoring Court Ban, Downloading Child Abuse Images

Defiant Ross Caught Despite Court Order

Simon Ross, 42, from Ashford, has been locked up for nearly three years after flouting a strict internet ban. In November 2019, Ross was slapped with a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order following his guilty plea to making indecent photographs.

Over 500 Illegal Images Found by Police

Kent Police carried out a check at Ross’s home in December 2019 and uncovered more than 500 banned images on his laptop. Among them were 32 pictures rated as category C, all illegal to possess.

Sentenced and Banned Again

Ross was arrested, charged, and pleaded guilty to possession and making indecent images of children. On July 17, 2020, Canterbury Crown Court sentenced him to two years and 10 months behind bars. He also received a new 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order that restricts his internet use once he’s out.

Police Speak Out

Detective Constable Marie-Anne Carr said: “Behind every indecent image is a child who has been the victim of abuse and protecting children from harm is a priority for Kent Police. Ross has shown that previous court orders will not stop him from offending and I hope he uses his time in prison to rehabilitate.”
