Young Man Stabbed Three Times in Shocking Week Street Attack
Michael Jibowu stabbed an 18-year-old three times in an unprovoked assault on Week Street earlier this year. The brutal attack left the victim wounded in the neck and torso.
Violence Erupts Outside Takeaway
The victim, believed to know Jibowu, was leaving a takeaway with friends on the evening of April 23, 2022. Jibowu, 20, was waiting in the street. After a brief exchange of words, he lunged at the teenager, striking without warning. The victim desperately ran back inside the restaurant to get help and was rushed to hospital before being released.
Swift Police Action Leads to Arrest
Officers acted fast, reviewing CCTV footage from the area. Jibowu was identified and caught three days later at a London address. He lives on Upper Wickham Lane in Welling.
Charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, Jibowu pleaded guilty at Maidstone Crown Court. On September 1, 2022, he was jailed for two years and eight months.
Investigator Praises Quick Response and Justice Served
“This was a shocking assault in a busy town centre that resulted in a young man suffering multiple stab wounds,” said Detective Constable Andy Julier.
“Thankfully, local volunteers with medical training helped the victim until paramedics arrived. Jibowu fled the scene, showing no concern for his victim. However, immediate police inquiries and diligent investigations ensured he was tracked down and brought to justice.”
