Telford Man Jailed for Brutal Knife Murder in Ketley Park
Robert Wieczorkowski, 32, from Hurleybrook Way, Telford, has been slammed with an 18-year prison sentence for the stabbing murder of 23-year-old Dawid Kurdziel.
The sentencing took place today (Thursday 19 May) at Stafford Crown Court following a chilling attack on 3 July 2021 at Ketley Recreation Ground.
Glass Bottle Shattered – Deadly Neck Stab
After drinking, Wieczorkowski smashed a glass bottle and stabbed Kurdziel in the neck. The wound caused fatal blood loss. Wieczorkowski fled the scene, triggering a widespread manhunt.
He was tracked down and arrested on 14 August in the Handsworth area of Birmingham, where he was charged with murder. Despite denying the charge, the jury found him guilty on Wednesday 11 May.
Police Praise Polish Community and Pay Tribute to Victim’s Family
Detective Inspector Lee Holehouse said: “Robert Wieczorkowski has shown no remorse for his horrendous act. After the attack, he ran across the UK trying to dodge responsibility.
“He evaded capture for weeks before being caught in Birmingham. Throughout the investigation, he claimed self-defence, denying any intent to kill or seriously harm Mr Kurdziel.
“The jury rightly rejected this, and Wieczorkowski will now spend many years behind bars.
“I want to thank everyone who helped police during the investigation, especially members of the Polish community whose key information secured this conviction.
“We also commend Dawid Kurdziel’s family for their quiet dignity throughout this process. Our thoughts remain with them.”
