Violent Burglar Jailed Over Home Invasion and Car Theft

Reece Callum Davidson, 24, from Carr Lane, has been locked up for four years and three months at York Crown Court. He admitted to a violent burglary and stealing a car.

Homeowner Attacked in Early Hours Break-In

The shocking crime happened just after midnight on Saturday 15 October 2022 in Norton, near Malton. Davidson broke into a house and attacked the homeowner, hitting her in the face with a torch while she was in bed.

He then stole bank and credit cards along with a car belonging to the victim’s son, taking it from the driveway.

Digital Evidence Snared the Burglar

Police were called at 3:45am and launched a swift investigation. Davidson was tracked down, arrested, and his phone seized for forensic analysis.

Data recovered from the phone placed him at the scene. Officers also found an Apple AirTag that had been attached to the stolen car’s keys, dumped in fields behind his home.

Detective Slams ‘Despicable’ Attack

“This was a really harrowing experience for the victim which has left them profoundly affected,” said Detective Constable Oliver Dalby.

“Davidson’s actions were utterly despicable, showing no remorse. To assault someone in their own bed – the one place you should feel safe – is wholly reprehensible.”

“I thank the victim for supporting the investigation during this tough time. I hope this sentence gives them some peace of mind,” added DC Dalby.

“Thanks also to my colleagues who worked tirelessly to gather the evidence that put Davidson behind bars. Burglary is a traumatic crime that goes far beyond stolen property.”
