Just after 2:30am on Sunday, 9 April, police swooped on a group of suspicious men spotted by a vigilant local on the Shrublands Estate in Croydon. Officers quickly detained 21-year-old Emilio Sota for a search, uncovering a loaded firearm nearby.

Violence Erupts as Suspect Attacks Officer

Tensions escalated when Sota threw a punch at a police officer during the detention. The 21-year-old, from Portland Road, SE25, now faces charges for firearm possession and assaulting an emergency worker.

Two More Arrests and a Warning

Two other men were also arrested on suspicion of carrying firearms but have been bailed while investigations continue. Sota is set to appear at Croydon Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 10 April.
