Son Charged with Murder of Mother in Shocking Southwark Case

Mother Found Dead at Home

Police were called to a Blakes Road address in Southwark at 6.30am on Sunday, 8 March after the London Ambulance Service discovered Vanita Nowell, 68, unresponsive.

Officers arrived to find Vanita dead at the scene. A post-mortem on Friday, 13 March revealed suspicious circumstances around her death.

Head Injuries and Respiratory Failure Cause of Death

The cause was confirmed as head injuries and respiratory failure, prompting a murder investigation.

Son Arrested and Charged

Andrew Shepherd, 47, who lives at the same Blakes Road address, was arrested on suspicion of murder and held in custody.

He was formally charged with murder on Sunday, 15 March and is set to appear at croydon/" title="Croydon" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Croydon Magistrates’ Court today, Monday 16 March.
