Man Bites Woman’s Lip Off at Notting Hill Carnival
A shocking attack at Notting Hill Carnival has left a woman with life-changing injuries after Jason Thompson, 42, bit off her top lip. The brutal assault happened on the first day of the 2019 festivities in West London.
“I’m the Devil” – Attacker’s Chilling Words Before Attack
The victim, a woman in her 40s, was chatting with friends on Portobello Road near Golborne Road at around 6pm on Sunday 25 August 2019. Suddenly, Thompson, a stranger to her, strode over and declared, “I’m the devil.” He then leaned forward and bit off her top lip.
The woman was left bleeding heavily and in shock. Police quickly escorted her to a first aid post, and she was rushed to a west London hospital. Surgeons operated on her face, but the injuries caused permanent damage.
Police Appeal Leads to Arrest and Guilty Plea
Following the assault, police launched a public appeal on 2 September 2019 seeking witnesses. Thanks to vital tips from the public, Thompson was arrested and charged on 4 September. He appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court the next day.
On 25 February 2020 at Isleworth Crown Court, Thompson pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent. His sentencing is set for 27 March at the same court.
Detective Praises Victim’s Bravery and Public Support
“This was a horrific and unprovoked attack on a woman who has suffered life-changing injuries requiring ongoing surgery,” said DCI Driss Hayoukane.
“The evidence against Jason Thompson was overwhelming, leaving him with no option other than to plead guilty.
“I want to praise the bravery of the victim in this case. I also want to thank members of the public who came forward following the original appeal with crucial information that assisted the investigation team.”
