Man Jailed for Stabbing 80-Year-Old Woman to Death in Her Bed
Subell Ali, 34, from Landseer Avenue, E12, was found guilty at the Old Bailey on Wednesday, 29 March, of fatally stabbing 80-year-old Somtera Bibi multiple times as she lay in her bed.
Sentenced to Hospital Order With Restrictions
On Thursday, 30 March, Ali was handed a Hospital Order with a Section 41 restriction, meaning he will be detained indefinitely for public safety due to his mental health issues.
Police Found Victim on 2 April 2021
- Police arrived at 9.56am on 2 April 2021 to find Somtera Bibi dead at her home.
- Ali was arrested nearby at a bus stop on Dersingham Avenue, wearing a jumper smeared with the victim’s blood.
- A post-mortem on 3 April confirmed the cause of death as fatal stab wounds to the chest.
Motive Still a Mystery
Ali was charged and remanded in custody but later assessed as unfit to plea due to his mental health. The motive behind the brutal killing remains unknown.
