Man Jailed After Shooting Dad-of-Four in Brutal Leg Attack
Louis Kelly Found Guilty of Murder at Old Bailey
Louis Kelly, 40, from Belgrave Gardens NW8, was convicted of murder at the Old Bailey on Friday, 13 November after a tense trial. Kelly, remanded in custody, awaits sentencing at a later date.
Father-of-Four Shot Five Times in Stairwell
The chilling attack unfolded on 17 September 2019 when police were called at 9:27am to Lansdowne Road, Tottenham. Paramedics and London’s Air Ambulance rushed to the scene where 33-year-old Mark McCann-Barrett was found with gunshot wounds to both legs.
Despite medical efforts, Mark, a devoted dad from Waltham Cross, tragically died in hospital nearly two weeks later on 30 September.
Jealous Rage Sparks Deadly Shooting
Court heard that the night before the shooting, Kelly discovered his girlfriend was having an affair with Mark. After seizing her phone and confirming the betrayal, Kelly invited Mark to sleep on his sofa.
A violent confrontation erupted during the night. Kelly fired five shots through Mark’s legs. Bullets were found under the sofa where Mark had lain, before he dragged himself to the stairwell, bleeding and desperate for help.
Kelly Fled but Caught Days Later
Kelly, who initially fled, was stopped by police on 27 September in Chippenham Road, W9, travelling with another man who urged him to surrender. Kelly was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder but charges were swiftly upgraded to murder following Mark’s death.
Kelly pleaded not guilty but was convicted after the jury deliberated.
Detective Chief Inspector Neil John said: “There is simply no justification for taking the life of another. Kelly’s possession of a firearm directly led to Mark’s death – a tragedy that could have been avoided.”
Mark’s mother heartbreakingly added: “I will never forgive the person who did this to Mark. He took away the father of my four grandchildren whilst they were still so young. I won’t be able to tell him how much I loved him ever again.”
