Man Convicted of Murdering Pregnant Woman and Killing Her Baby
Aaron McKenzie Found Guilty at Old Bailey
Aaron McKenzie, 26, from Peckham Park Road, SE15, was convicted for the brutal murder of Kelly-Mary Fauvrelle and the manslaughter of her infant son at the Old Bailey on Friday, 10 July. The jury found him guilty of all charges, including possession of an offensive weapon. Sentencing is set for Friday, 17 July.
Tragic Attack in Thornton Heath
In the early hours of Saturday, 29 June 2019, London Ambulance Service responded to reports of an injured pregnant woman at a residential address on Raymead Avenue, Thornton Heath.
Kelly-Mary, eight months pregnant, was discovered in her ground-floor bedroom with 21 stab wounds. Despite desperate efforts from paramedics and London’s Air Ambulance, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Medics delivered her baby boy, named Riley by the family, who was rushed to hospital but sadly died days later on 3 July.
Disturbing Details of the Crime
Kelly’s family was upstairs asleep when the attack happened. Her sister, alerted by screams, found Kelly dying near the baby’s cot set up for Riley’s imminent arrival.
There were no signs of forced entry, but police believe McKenzie entered through patio doors. CCTV footage revealed McKenzie near the scene minutes before and shortly after the attack.
From Suspect to Confession—and Denial
- McKenzie formerly dated Kelly, but they split months before the murder.
- After the attack, he feigned innocence, even attending the hospital as Riley fought for his life.
- Initially treated as a witness, police later arrested him on 11 July 2019.
- He admitted responsibility via his solicitor, blaming no one but himself: “No one else was involved in this. There was no reason for it other than my faults.”
- Despite this, after psychiatric evaluations, he pleaded not guilty and falsely named another suspect.
- Investigations found no proof of this alternative account.
Detective Chief Inspector Mick Norman said: “This case has been nothing short of heart-breaking for Kelly’s family and for the officers who have become close to them. The agonising loss of such a young woman and her child at a time when they were eagerly awaiting Riley’s birth and looking forward to a happy future is beyond imagining.
“Despite the evidence against him, McKenzie has subjected Kelly and Riley’s family to the trauma of a trial. The theft of Kelly and Riley’s happy futures is something that will haunt those who loved her forever and I sincerely hope that Aaron McKenzie is similarly affected as he faces his future incarcerated.”
