Cop Carries Head Injury After Man Drives at Him in Shocking Ilford Incident
Nsimba Malungo, 29, with no fixed address, was slapped with a three-year prison sentence at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Friday, 16 October. He pleaded guilty to multiple charges including assault, dangerous driving, and trying to cover up his crime.
Car Used as a Weapon Against Police Officer
On 20 April, Met Taskforce officers on patrol in Ilford stopped a car driven by Malungo at the junction of the A12 and Ley Street. Instead of complying, Malungo sped off, smashing into an officer and dragging him along the bonnet. The officer suffered a head injury and was rushed to hospital.
Fake Story and Forensic Evidence Nail Malungo
The getaway car was found about a mile away. Malungo claimed his car had been stolen, a story supported by a friend. But meticulous CCTV and forensic work exposed the lie, and Malungo was arrested on 28 April.
Police Praise Bravery and Commitment
“This was a shocking incident which could have had devastating consequences,” said Detective Sergeant Colin Stow. “Malungo deliberately used his car as a weapon trying to escape.”
North East Area Taskforce Chief Inspector Billy Bowen-Long added, “It’s only by sheer luck the officer wasn’t more seriously hurt. Despite his injuries, he was back at work the following week – a true testament to the courage of our Taskforce officers.”
“The team involved were rightly commended for their bravery and dedication.”
