Gun Arrest Shakes South London: Dangerous Revolver Seized in Mini-Cab Stop
Jesus Da Silva, 22, from Kenwood Gardens, Redbridge, will spend over five years behind bars after pleading guilty to firearm possession and handling criminal property at Woolwich Crown Court.
Five Years and Eight Months for Gun Offence
On Friday, 6 November, Da Silva was sentenced to five years and eight months imprisonment, a sentence that will run concurrently for his crimes.
Armed Police Nab Man with Revolver in Mini-Cab
The drama unfolded on 14 July when Da Silva and an 18-year-old were caught travelling in a mini-cab on Southwark Park Road, SE16.
Specialist officers working off intelligence, backed by armed units, stopped the vehicle and arrested both men.
A search uncovered a revolver wrapped in a bandana, hidden inside the cab.
Police Praise Successful Weapon Seizure
Da Silva and the younger man were held on suspicion of possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life. They faced Woolwich Crown Court on 13 August after being charged.
Detective Constable Rob Smith hailed the bust, stating:
“This dangerous weapon has been taken off London’s streets. It could have seriously injured or killed someone. Firearms have no place here, and their removal makes our city safer.”
“The Met remains committed to fighting violent crime and seizing guns. We will keep cracking down on criminals and bringing them to justice.”
Youth Released Without Charges
The 18-year-old caught with Da Silva was later released with no further action taken.
