Pervert Gets 2 Years for Bus Attacks on Schoolgirls
Albert Gago, 65, from Hackney, was jailed for two years and three months at Isleworth Crown Court on Friday, 7 October. He will also remain on the sex offenders’ register for 10 years.
Horrific Attacks on Buses Across London
Gago sexually assaulted eight girls aged 12 to 16 as they travelled on buses through Enfield, Hackney, and Camden between September 2021 and June 2022. The attacks happened at various locations including Highgate Road, Hertford Road, Rossington Street, Fore Street, and Village Road.
Police Use CCTV and Oyster Card Records to Nail Suspect
Officers from the Roads and Transport Policing Command launched a thorough investigation. They recovered CCTV footage from buses and cross-checked Oyster card data to identify Gago. Matching clothing found at his Hackney home sealed his arrest.
Detective Praises Brave Victims and Vows to Tackle Violence
“Gago was a prolific offender who targeted young girls as they used public transport. He is dangerous and I am pleased this offending has resulted in a custodial sentence,” said Detective Constable James Eccleston, who led the case.
“I would like to praise the bravery of the young victims, who reported the offences and supported us throughout. The Met is determined to tackle violence against women and girls in all its forms. No one should have to put up with sexual behaviour.”
Gago pleaded guilty on 11 August and was also handed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order lasting 10 years.
