Burglars Snatch £3,000 Worth of Jewellery and Trainers in Selsey Raid
At 10:50am on 11 February 2020, 21-year-old Rhys Curtis and his 19-year-old accomplice Max Plaister barged into a house on 123 on 4 October. Plaister’s sentencing is due on 12 December.
Reckless Crash Leaves House in Ruins
In a separate barmy stunt, Curtis caused chaos on 5 November 2020 around 11pm. Driving a Ford Fiesta, he smashed into a BMW, a Vauxhall Astra, and then ploughed into a house on Varos Close. The property suffered serious structural damage, leaving a hole in the wall.
Curtis then fled the scene but was arrested later that night. At portsmouth/" title="Portsmouth" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court on 17 June, he admitted to:
- Three counts of criminal damage
- Failing to stop after an accident
- Failing to report an accident
- Driving under the influence of cannabis
- Driving without a licence
- Driving without insurance
Sentence Delivered: 34 Months Behind Bars
On Thursday at Portsmouth Crown Court, Curtis was jailed for 34 months and banned from driving for 21 months.
“These were all very serious offences, and I am pleased that both defendants have been convicted,” said PC Charlotte Pocock.
“Rhys Curtis’s reckless driving could have killed or seriously injured someone. The crashed vehicles were written off, and the damaged house will cost thousands to repair.
“The impact on the victims has been life-changing. Too often, people ignore the consequences of driving illegally. I hope this case serves as a harsh reminder of the devastation it causes.”
