On 7 October 2022, plainclothes officers from the Met’s Central West Basic Command Unit were patrolling Ladbroke Grove in Notting Hill when they spotted a black Mercedes with the front passenger wearing an open-face balaclava.
Suspicious, the officers attempted to stop the vehicle. The Mercedes tried to flee but eventually pulled over on St Marks Road. The front passenger – later identified as Heather – jumped out and fled on foot down Bassett Road.
He ran into a residential garden but was quickly caught by pursuing officers.
Converted Zoraki M906 Found Loaded with Six Bullets
Officers searched the area and found a firearm hidden in the undergrowth. The gun, a Zoraki M906, was originally manufactured as a blank and gas-firing pistol but had been converted into a fully functional firearm capable of firing live rounds. It was loaded with six bullets.
Forensic tests proved Heather had handled the gun before trying to ditch it. He was arrested and charged, then remanded in custody.
Met Police Praise Officers’ Sharp Instinct
Detective Constable Tom Harris, Specialist Crime Command, said: “This is a great example of officers acting on their instincts during routine patrols. Thanks to their professional curiosity, a lethal firearm has been taken off the streets — no doubt saving lives. The Met is fully committed to tackling gun crime, and anyone caught like Heather can expect to face prison.”
Chief Superintendent Louise Puddefoot, Kensington and Chelsea local policing commander, added: “Our officers face uncertainty every day with one goal – keeping London safe. Their quick action and bravery that day removed a deadly weapon from London’s streets. We couldn’t be prouder.”
