Man Admits Manslaughter in Killing of Ann Wendy Morse

Kenneth Andrew McDermid, 43, has pleaded guilty to manslaughter by diminished responsibility over the death of Ann Wendy Morse last year.

Wendy, as she was known, was discovered at her residence on Tunstall Road, Knypersley, just after 7pm on Sunday 22 March 2020.

Fugitive Arrested in Sweden

McDermid, who also goes by Kyle McKenzie and lives on Rosemary Place, Sneyd Green, fled to Sweden after the killing. He was tracked down and arrested there a week later.

Justice Nears as Sentence Looms

His admission came during a Stafford Crown Court hearing on Tuesday 9 March. Sentencing is set for the week starting 12 April 2021.

Senior Investigating Officer Detective Inspector Cheryl Hannan said: “We are happy that with this plea the defendant has taken responsibility for his actions and hope this goes some way to giving the family some closure after what has been a truly difficult year for them.”

“I’d like to thank the family for their support and courage during our investigation and express gratitude to Swedish authorities and the Crown Prosecution Service for their help in detaining McDermid last March.

“We now hope the sentence will reflect his actions and keep communities safe.”
