Man Jailed for Killing Stuart Newton in Brutal Attack

Officers rushed to Worsley Court on February 13, 2020, after Stuart Newton was found with severe head injuries. The 65-year-old was taken to hospital but sadly died the next day.

Nathan Williams Arrested and Charged

Nathan Scott Williams, 32, from Worsley Court, Oswaldtwistle, was arrested the day after the attack. Initially charged with murder, Williams later pleaded guilty to manslaughter at Preston Crown Court earlier this year.

What Happened That Night?

  • On the evening of February 12, 2020, Williams and Mr Newton were socialising at a nearby property.
  • The mood turned sour after Mr Newton made a comment about childcare arrangements aimed at Williams.
  • Both men left the property shortly after, with witnesses hearing Williams shout: “I’ve hit him.”
  • Mr Newton was found lying alone, suffering head injuries from blunt trauma.
  • Williams admitted to punching Mr Newton but denied being the aggressor, although blood spots matching Mr Newton’s were found on Williams’ trainers.

Justice for Stuart Newton

Detective Chief Inspector Lee Wilson said,

“This senseless violence has cost a loving family man his life. The level of violence used by Williams was completely unacceptable and disproportionate. I am glad Williams has taken responsibility by pleading guilty to manslaughter. Stuart’s family have now seen some justice.”

Stuart Newton’s family paid tribute:

“Stuart, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, was taken too soon at 65. He was intelligent, hardworking, and loved spending time with his family. We miss him dearly and hope he can now rest in peace.”

Senior Crown Prosecutor Katie Marsden added,

“This tragic case involved the unnecessary death of a much-loved man. Our thoughts are with Mr Newton’s family during this difficult time.”
