Drink-Drive Monster Gets Six Years for Deadly Crash
Umberto Schramm, 37, from Burns Road, has been locked up for six years after a fatal head-on collision in Surrey. The Kingston Crown Court handed down the sentence yesterday (24 November).
Fatal Crash on Farnham Road
On 31 May 2019, Schramm lost control of his Mitsubishi Outlander on Farnham Road, Elstead, smashing headfirst into a Ford Fiesta driven by 70-year-old Frances Filby. The elderly driver was rushed to St George’s Hospital but tragically died the next day from her injuries.
Over Twice the Limit and Drugged
Tests revealed Schramm was more than twice the legal drink-driving limit and had also taken a large quantity of drugs. Adding to his punishment, he’s banned from driving for nearly seven years, running concurrently with his prison term.
Serious Collision Unit Issues Warning
“Frances Filby tragically had her life cut short by the selfish and irresponsible actions of Umberto Schramm, who was under the influence of drugs and alcohol at the time of the collision,” said Stuart Bonner from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit. “Driving under the influence can have very real and very tragic consequences. Hopefully, this sentence helps Frances’ family begin to come to terms with the loss. Our thoughts remain with them at this difficult time.”
