Reckless Driver Nabbed After Dangerous BMW Smash in Peterborough
Kashon Browne, 24, was arrested on December 21, 2020, following a tense standoff with armed police at a house in Earls Close, Peterborough. This is where the stolen BMW he was driving was recovered.
Flashing Through City Centre, Swerving Into Pedestrian
CCTV caught Browne tearing through the city centre at around 11.30pm the night before the arrest. He swerved towards a man and collided with him after the man tried to step in following a row between Browne and a woman.
Desperate Attempts to Dodge the Law Backfire
Police dug into Browne’s internet history and found searches about the car’s insurance and MOT status—clearly an attempt to cover his tracks. He also looked up a number plate found on the stolen vehicle, which originated from London.
It emerged Browne had no driving licence and no insurance for the car he was reckless enough to take for a spin.
Jail Time for Dangerous Driver
Browne, from Fraser Road, Edmonton, London, was sentenced to four years and five months in prison at Cambridge Crown Court. A jury found him guilty of dangerous driving and possession of stolen goods.
“Browne was reckless and risked the life of the pedestrian by driving at him,” said Detective Constable Jacob Reeves. “To make matters worse, he was driving a stolen car with fake licence plates and no insurance.”
“I am relieved he is now behind bars, where he can hopefully reflect on his risky and selfish actions that night.”
