Sandwich Shop Attacker Jailed for 20 Months After Repeated Assaults at York Station
A 30-year-old man who terrorised a shop assistant at a York station sandwich kiosk has been locked up for 20 months. Jamie Kelly, homeless and brazen, pleaded guilty to criminal damage and stalking and was sentenced at York Crown Court on August 13.
Sandwiches Thrown During Furious Attack
On September 11, 2019, Kelly confronted the victim while she worked behind the counter. He aggressively questioned her before hurling sandwiches and other items, shouting threats. Terrified, the shop assistant barricaded herself inside the kiosk until Kelly left.
Relentless Stalking Sparks Police Action
Kelly’s harassment didn’t stop that night. He approached her again as she tried to leave the station. Fearing for her safety, she retreated and asked station staff to contact police.
Over the next month, Kelly repeatedly returned to the station trying to get close to the victim and her colleague. On October 23, British Transport Police were called after he approached her again aggressively. Kelly was promptly arrested.
Police Praise Victim’s Courage, Urge Others to Speak Up
Detective Sergeant Dave Thompson said: “Kelly put his victim through a terrifying ordeal. She was constantly looking over her shoulder, fearing when he would next appear and what he would do. No one should live like that just going about their daily life.”
“Kelly’s cowardly behaviour has rightly earned him a prison sentence. We hope this brings some relief to his victim.”
