A Burnley fan has been slapped with a five-year Football Banning Order (FBO) for shocking offensive chanting before the Burnley vs Manchester United clash. The incident took place outside a pub on Yorkshire Street, Burnley, on September 23.
Horrific Chant Sparks Outrage
Billy Rambadt, 27, hurled vile abuse at a group of Manchester United fans. He shouted the word ‘Munich’ while making an aeroplane gesture — a nasty nod to the tragic 1958 Munich Air Disaster that claimed the lives of eight Manchester United players.
Police Bodycam Catches Racist Rant
The disgusting episode was caught on police Body Worn Video. Officers reviewed the footage, tracked down Rambadt, and charged him with using threatening and abusive language likely to cause harassment, alarm, or distress.
Conviction and Consequences
Rambadt pleaded guilty at Blackburn Magistrates Court on February 16. Besides the five-year Football Banning Order, he was fined £500, hit with £85 in court costs, and ordered to pay a £200 victim surcharge.
Police Send a Warning
Superintendent Melita Worswick of the Special Operations Team said: “Rambadt’s conduct on that day was absolutely appalling and something that I know many people will find abhorrent. Although Rambadt was not arrested at the scene, justice did catch up with him in the end. To be clear, if you are not arrested at the time you commit an offence like this, be sure that we will be reviewing the evidence against you, and you should expect a knock at the door.”
