Jail for Robber Who Attacked Pregnant Woman and Husband in East London

Fred Odum-Jones, 38, from Lewisham, has been locked up for four and a half years after a brutal robbery in Tower Hamlets. The thug admitted robbery, assault by beating, and dangerous driving during a chilling attack on a pregnant woman and her husband.

Violent Attack Outside Victims’ Home

On the evening of 20 July, the couple – enjoying a night out in central London – returned home with a bag full of cash and jewellery. As they entered their block of flats, two men followed them into a communal area. The husband was punched repeatedly and his bag stolen.

The wife, six months pregnant at the time, tried to step in but was pushed aside. The thugs kicked the man while he lay on the floor before fleeing the scene.

Desperate Chase Ends in Dangerous Dragging

Determined to reclaim his belongings, the husband chased the pair to their getaway car. Reaching through the window, he tried to snatch back his bag – but the driver sped off, dragging him along the road until he was forced to let go.

Both victims were rushed to hospital. The woman escaped injury, but the man suffered cuts to his face and body.

Copper Praise and Hunt for Second Suspect

Detectives from Central East CID quickly used CCTV to identify Odum-Jones, who was arrested three days after the attack. He faced court and pleaded guilty.

DC Tom Lynch-Lawton said: “This was an absolutely terrifying experience for the victims on their own doorstep. Odum-Jones and his associate showed no regard for the safety of the victims – especially a visibly pregnant woman – as they stole cash and jewellery that was not theirs. Their callousness continued when they assaulted the victim while he lay prone on the floor. The streets of Tower Hamlets are safer with Odum-Jones behind bars. We continue to hunt the second suspect.”

Police Appeal for Second Suspect

Officers have released images of a man they want to question. He is described as black, stocky, in his 30s, wearing a white t-shirt, black jogging bottoms, white trainers, and a black hat.
