Blackpool Man Jailed for Life Over Fatal Stabbing of Partner

Donald Payne, 62, from Dinmore Avenue, Blackpool, was locked up for life at Preston Crown Court yesterday. He must serve a minimum of 12 years before he can even think about parole. Payne admitted manslaughter over the stabbing death of his partner, Simone Ambler, in March 2021.

Tragic Night: Woman Found Dead After Stabbing

The grim discovery came on the evening of March 29, 2021. At around 9:30pm, the Ambulance Service called police to a Dinmore Avenue address following reports of a stabbing.

Officers entered the property to find 49-year-old Simone Ambler lifeless. She was pronounced dead at the scene. A Home Office post-mortem revealed multiple stab wounds as the cause of death.

Damning Evidence at the Scene

Payne was arrested immediately. During a call to the Ambulance Service, he admitted to stabbing Miss Ambler after a heated argument. Crime scene officers found blood on his hands, feet, and jeans. A bloodied knife was recovered from an armchair where Payne had been sitting.

Initially charged with murder, the Crown Prosecution Service later accepted a guilty plea of manslaughter due to diminished responsibility.

Police Praise Team Effort, Offer Condolences

“This is a truly tragic case where the victim, Simone Ambler, lost her life after a violent assault from Donald Payne,” said Detective Chief Inspector Jane Webb of Lancashire Police’s Force Major Investigation Team.

“Payne admitted lashing out following an argument, with Miss Ambler suffering fatal wounds. While he was charged with murder, the court accepted a manslaughter plea.

“My thoughts remain with Miss Ambler’s family, who have been left devastated by her passing. I hope today’s sentencing gives them some closure and helps them move forward.

“I’d also like to commend the professionalism of my colleagues who faced a devastating scene, and the diligent work from investigating officers. Thanks also to the CPS for their support in this case.”
