Tragic Tod: Toddler Kaylee-Jayde Dies After Brutal Abuse in Solihull Flat

Two Convicted of Manslaughter, Not Murder

Kaylee-Jayde Priest, a toddler, was found lifeless at the Solihull flat she shared with her 23-year-old mother, Nicola Priest, on August 9 last year. Nicola and her 22-year-old boyfriend, Callum Redfern, were cleared of murder but convicted of manslaughter. The young girl died from severe chest and abdominal injuries.

Shocking Abuse Uncovered

Calls to 999 were made by Nicola after Kaylee’s death, but a jury heard the child was likely already dead before the emergency call was placed. Medical experts revealed the girl also suffered past injuries including broken ribs, a broken sternum, and fractured lower legs—clear signs of ongoing cruelty.

Neighbours Heard Crying, Lies and Violence

Neighbours in Kingshurst House recalled hearing a loud bang, followed by Kaylee crying in terror. They claimed Nicola tried to cover up abuse by saying, “I’ll just say she fell off the bed.” Witnesses also noted how loud music was often turned on to drown out the child’s crying.

Disturbing Texts Reveal Dark Truth

Just days before Kaylee’s death, Nicola texted Redfern: “I’m gonna kill her… because she keeps leaving the living room or going in the kitchen, so I’ve paled her one and smacked her for her nappy.” Redfern chillingly replied, “Good – give her one from me.” Nicola responded, “I will, babe.

Upcoming Sentencing
