A 47-year-old man has died after being deliberately hit by a car in Woolton, Liverpool, sparking a murder investigation.
Harrowing Moments as Bystanders Plead for Victim to Survive
Emergency services raced to Stonyhurst Road at around 11:45pm on Friday. The victim was struck outside a house party. Despite desperate attempts by onlookers and paramedics, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
“They were shouting at him, ‘Stay with me, stay with me. Don’t you dare close your eyes. Please, please stay with me,’” recalled local resident Yvonne Sowerby, 65.
Witnesses described chaos and heartbreak. One neighbour heard a woman scream, “That’s my brother!” as she rushed in.
Party Turns Fatal as Car Crashes Into Man
The party, which earlier saw guests carrying presents into the house, took a deadly turn just before midnight. A car was found diagonally across the road, driver’s door left open. Police have pitched a tent over the scene, where a black car and white van remain.
Police Hunt Witnesses as Suspect Held Over Murder
A 41-year-old man was arrested nearby on suspicion of murder and is now in custody. Detective Inspector Katie Coote of Merseyside Police said the initial probe indicates the car was “deliberately driven at the man.”
“We are reviewing CCTV and conducting house-to-house enquiries,” DI Coote said. “Anyone with dashcam or home footage is urged to come forward.”
The tragedy has stunned the usually quiet Woolton community. Police praised locals for their bravery in trying to save the victim before help arrived.
