Man Jailed for Attempted Murder After Deliberate Hit-and-Run in Maidstone
Anthony Deeprose was locked up for 27 years after deliberately driving a car at two men in Maidstone, leaving one with serious head injuries. The shocking attack unfolded late on 12 November 2022 outside a town centre pub during a charity fancy dress event.
Violent Clash Outside Pub Ends in Shocking Hit-and-Run
A group of friends were enjoying the charity night when Deeprose showed up with his mates. Tensions escalated after Deeprose admitted he was struggling and lashed out when another man tried to comfort him. Moments later, Deeprose punched the man in the head outside the venue on Station Road.
When the victim’s friends confronted him, Deeprose jumped into a silver Corsa and ploughed into them, hitting a man in his 20s before speeding off towards the railway station with his headlights off.
Return of the Car, More Injuries
As the first victim lay injured, Deeprose returned with his lights still off. The car’s wheel ran over the man’s head and the vehicle struck a second man, also in his 20s. Deeprose then fled the scene with accomplices.
The first victim was rushed to a London hospital with serious head wounds. The second suffered leg injuries.
Arrest, Trial, and Tough Sentence
Police caught Deeprose two hours later at Dargate service station near Faversham. At Maidstone Crown Court, he pleaded not guilty to two counts of attempted murder but admitted to dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, and assault by beating.
After a trial, he was found guilty of attempted murder and sentenced on 6 October to 27 years behind bars, plus a three-year licence period on release. He must serve two-thirds of his sentence before parole eligibility.
Detective Constable Mark Butler said: “Deeprose knew he was likely to cause serious harm, and it’s only by chance we aren’t dealing with fatalities. One victim suffered life-changing injuries, and many were traumatised by this appalling incident.”
“I commend the victims, witnesses, and pub staff for their bravery and first aid after the attack. Their help was vital in aiding emergency services and bringing this dangerous man to justice.”
