PC Caught in Prostitute Sting Faces Fine and Misconduct Probe
Met Officer Pleads Guilty in Sex Worker Sting
PC Tristan Downing, 38, of the Central North Basic Command Unit, appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 28 February. He pleaded guilty to soliciting a prostitute in an off-duty bust.
Fined and Shamed
Downing was slapped with a £450 fine, plus £85 court costs and a £45 witness surcharge, all payable within 14 days. The police officer was caught during an Edmonton operation targeting those exploiting sex workers. His arrest happened in the early hours of Friday, 14 January.
Force Responds with Tough Stance
At court, Downing expressed deep remorse and shame over his actions. He is currently on restricted duties as the Met launches misconduct proceedings against him.
Commander Andy Carter, overseeing policing in Camden and Islington, blasted the officer’s behaviour:
“We expect the highest standards of behaviour from our officers both on, and off, duty and this officer’s actions fell way below these expectations. He was caught as the result of a proactive operation targeting those who exploit sex workers. The Met is committed to rooting out all officers who break the law or are involved in dishonest or disreputable behaviour.”
