Dodgy Roofers Target Elderly Couple in Coventry

West Midlands police have released CCTV images of two dodgy suspects caught on a doorbell camera at a Coventry home. The footage sparked several calls naming Thomas Connors as one of the conmen.

Conmen Rip Off Vulnerable Pensioners with Fake Roof Repairs

Connors and an unknown accomplice showed up at the home of an 89-year-old man and his 91-year-old wife in Chapel Fields, claiming urgent roof work was needed. But the accomplice likely caused damage himself to push a £1,500 emergency repair bill.

The elderly couple grew suspicious, and the distressed woman screamed for help. The pair fled empty-handed – but the rip-off left the pensioners with a hefty repair bill.

Connors Caught in Another Roof Repair Scam

Just days later, a man matching Connors’ description conned an 85-year-old dementia sufferer in Northfield, again claiming urgent roof repairs. Connors and his sidekick took hundreds of pounds and didn’t lift a finger.

Justice Served: Connors Jailed for 20 Months

After public tips from social media, police built a watertight case. The 62-year-old from Lutterworth finally admitted fraud and criminal damage charges at Warwick Crown Court.

He was locked up for 20 months on Tuesday (15 September).

PC Munmohan Sahota, force CID, blasted Connors: “He had no hesitation in conning those he knew were elderly and vulnerable for his own gain.”

“Deliberately damaging roof tiles to force work on victims makes it even more despicable.”

“We’re grateful to the public for helping identify Connors and remain keen to catch his accomplice.”

“Anyone trying to scam people in their own homes – their safe spaces – must be brought to justice.”

If you recognise the accomplice or have info, call West Midlands Police on 101 quoting crime reference 20CV/65129H/18.
