Serial Scammer Busted Again After Early Prison Release

David Aves, 64, was locked up in 2021 for selling tractors, diggers, and machinery online – but never handing over the goods. Using multiple emails, bank accounts, and fake names, he conned 10 victims out of a whopping £34,821.

Back Behind Bars After Reoffending Post-Release

Just months after his August 2022 release, Aves slipped right back into his old tricks. Nottingham Crown Court revealed he targeted another seven victims between December 2022 and April 2023. This second spree saw losses soar over £15,000.

He lured victims through Facebook Marketplace and Gumtree with fake adverts for tractors and other equipment.

Fraud Investigation Unit Snaps Him Up

Police from Nottinghamshire’s Fraud Investigation unit launched a probe following numerous reports. Aves, of Ragdale Road, Bulwell, finally copped to seven counts of fraud by false representation. On 30 June 2023, he was sentenced to three more years behind bars.

Alongside the jail term, Aves faces a Serious Crime Prevention Order. This means he must notify Nottinghamshire Police of any name or address changes on release, can only have one phone, one bank account, and one email address, and is banned from selling goods online, directly or indirectly.

Violating these rules risks up to five years more in prison.

Police Slam “Inherently Dishonest” Conman

“David Aves is inherently dishonest, unwilling to change his criminal ways and does not care about the impact he has on his victims,” said Detective Constable Mark Holmes.

“He has shown not the slightest bit of remorse for his actions, and he deserves to be back behind bars.”

“This case should reassure the public we take fraud extremely seriously. We’ll keep fighting to protect Nottinghamshire and the UK from scams so hard-earned money stays where it belongs.”

“Anyone with similar experiences is urged to come forward.”
