BTP Officer Axed After Drugs Found at Her Home
A British Transport Police (BTP) officer has been sacked without warning after drugs were discovered at her London home. PC Amy Byrne faced an accelerated misconduct hearing following a police search that uncovered cannabis-related items at her address.
Drugs Bust at PC Byrne’s Address
On June 7, 2021, police responded to an incident nearby and visited PC Byrne’s home. When questioned, Byrne identified herself as a BTP officer but falsely claimed she did not live there, saying she lived with her mother instead.
The officers searched the property and found:
- Two cannabis plants and a hydroponic growing tent
- Several deal bags containing cannabis
- A half-smoked marijuana joint
- A stash of cannabis seeds
Chief Constable Sends Warning to Police
At the misconduct hearing on January 10, Byrne was judged guilty of professional misconduct. Chief Constable Lucy D’Orsi confirmed Byrne’s immediate dismissal, stressing the importance of integrity in the force.
“As police officers, we take an oath to serve with fairness, integrity, and impartiality. Officers involved in criminal activity or who ignore wrongdoing have no place in BTP,” said D’Arsi. “My decision to dismiss Amy Byrne immediately proves my commitment to upholding BTP’s values. No one who behaves like this belongs in our ranks.” “If anyone faces criminal situations or worries about breaching our standards, they should speak up—whether it’s their line manager, the Professional Standards Department, or Wellbeing. We care and will help.”
PC Amy Byrne’s shocking misconduct serves as a hard-hitting reminder: no one is above the law, not even those sworn to enforce it.
