Cop Caught Out! PC Jamie Rayner Guilty of Off-Duty Abuse
PC Jamie Rayner, 27, from the South Area Command Unit, pleaded guilty to serious charges at Croydon Magistrates’ Court on 8 September. The off-duty offences took place between 18 and 21 March, leading to his arrest on 24 March. Rayner has now been suspended and awaits sentencing at Croydon Crown Court, set for 4 November.
Shock and Disgrace in the Ranks
Chief Superintendent Dave Stringer, overseeing Bromley, Croydon, and Sutton policing, slammed Rayner’s conduct as “totally unacceptable” and damaging to public trust. He stressed the police force’s commitment to investigating controlling and coercive behaviour.
“No one should be in any doubt that my officers and I are completely committed to investigating cases of controlling and coercive behaviour and, as in this case, will provide specialist support to those who come forward and report this type of crime,” Stringer said.
Support for Victims and Tough Action on Rogue Officers
Stringer acknowledged that it can be tough and frightening to report abuse. He assured victims: “We will take your report seriously, and do everything in our power to help.”
He vowed to maintain transparency and rigor in handling cases involving police misconduct, both criminal and internal.
Misconduct proceedings against PC Rayner will begin once the criminal case concludes, putting the spotlight on police discipline and public confidence.
