Met Police Officer Fired After Guilty Plea to Child Sex Offences
A serving Met Police officer has been dismissed without notice after pleading guilty to multiple child sex offences. PC Hussain Chehab, who served with the North Area Command Unit, was found guilty of discreditable conduct at an accelerated gross misconduct hearing chaired by Assistant Commissioner Barbara Grey on 9 March.
Despicable Crimes While On Duty
Detective Chief Superintendent Caroline Haines, policing lead for Enfield where Chehab was based, condemned the officer’s actions. She said:
“PC Chehab committed the vilest of offences and abused his position of trust in the most despicable of ways. It is right that he is formally dismissed from the Met. We are determined to root out officers who have no place in our service.”
Some offences involved making indecent images while Chehab was a Safer Schools officer at a secondary school in Enfield between May and August 2021. He was immediately removed from the role once allegations emerged. The Met worked closely with the school and local authority to ensure no further safeguarding issues were missed.
Timeline of Offences and Arrest
- Offences dated back to March–September 2019, before Chehab joined the police, involving sexual activity with a girl aged 13-15.
- He pleaded guilty at Wood Green Crown Court on 24 January to four counts of sexual activity with a child, three counts of making indecent photos, and one count of sexual communication with a child.
- No verdict was recorded on four additional counts of making indecent photos, left to lie on file.
Chehab’s crimes surfaced in July 2021 after the family of a 16-year-old girl raised concerns about her relationship with him, which reportedly started when she was 15. He was arrested in August 2021, with subsequent digital device searches uncovering indecent images and communications.
He was suspended in October 2021 after further evidence emerged, including messages revealing sexual communication with a 14-year-old girl during 2019.
Consequences and Warning to Public
Chehab awaits sentencing on 17 March and will be added to the College of Policing’s Barred List, banning him from any policing or related posts.
Detectives urge anyone aware of corrupt or abusive behaviour within the Met to report it anonymously via the Anti-Corruption and Abuse Hotline run by Crimestoppers on 0800 085 0000 or online at www.crimestoppers-org.uk.
