Cop Convicted of Harassment After Shocking Trial
Temporary Detective Constable Christopher Gibbons, 32, was found guilty of harassment at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 13 July. The ex-cop now faces sentencing on 10 August at the same court.
Harassment Spree Uncovered
Gibbons, working with the Central West Command Unit, was arrested on 25 September 2022. That day, he harassed a woman – the start of a troubling pattern. A probe by the Central South Command Unit revealed multiple incidents of harassment against the same victim between 14 and 25 September 2022.
Backed into a Corner by the Met
Official charges were slapped on Gibbons on 21 February 2023. The Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards quickly got involved and suspended him from duty. The message is clear: no officers are above the law.
Chief Superintendent Louise Puddefoot said: “We have made it clear that any police officer or member of staff who commits a criminal offence will be brought to justice. We must give 1 the Met that it deserves, and anyone that fails to meet that standard, particularly if they commit a criminal offence, cannot possibly remain in our organisation.”
Next Steps for Gibbons
With the conviction now on record, a misconduct hearing will be organised without delay. The Met is determined to clean house and uphold high standards.
