Met Police Officer Slapped with Suspended Sentence for Harassment
PC Jonathan Simon, attached to the East Area Command Unit, faced justice at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 4 April. He received a 16-week suspended sentence after being convicted of harassing a woman he once dated.
On-Duty Officer’s Harassment Spree
Simon was arrested on 4 July 2022 following months of persistent harassment from October 2021 to July 2022. The victim, known to him, ended their relationship after they met in May 2021 while he was on duty.
- He repeatedly visited her home, even during work hours.
- Sent unwanted messages and voicemails despite clear rejections.
- Turned up at her workplace and hinted her window was unsecured to force contact.
Met Police Take Action
The Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards referred the case to the Independent Office for Police Conduct, which sent it back for further investigation. PC Simon was immediately suspended from duty after his arrest.
Misconduct proceedings are underway, ensuring no leniency for officers who overstep.
Hard-Hitting Words from Police Chief
Chief Superintendent Stuart Bell said: “PC Simon’s behaviour was unwarranted, unwanted and caused significant concern to the victim. Our officers cannot behave like this and we will be proactive in identifying and taking positive action against those who do. “Despite being repeatedly asked to stop he subjected the victim to a campaign of harassment which caused her considerable distress. He abused his position as a police officer and has now been dealt with by the courts.”
