Knife Attack Horror in Canterbury Ends with Jail Time
Rashaan White, 22, was swiftly arrested after a brutal assault on Station Road East, Canterbury, on 29 September 2023. The Wincheap man admitted grievous bodily harm with intent. On Friday 5 July, Maidstone Crown Court handed him a six-year prison sentence.
Accomplice Slapped with Suspended Sentence
Joseph Agbata, also 22 and from Station Road East, took part in the savage attack. He received a two-year suspended sentence for unlawful wounding.
Violent Chase Ends in Stabbing
- The attack happened shortly after 1am when the pair chased a man near Canterbury East railway station.
- The victim tried to escape by jumping into a van, but White smashed its windows, forcing him to flee.
- White and Agbata caught up, repeatedly punching and kicking the victim.
- In a chilling twist, White stabbed the victim twice with a knife.
- The victim was rushed to a London hospital with stab wounds and other injuries but has since been discharged.
Police Action and Praise
Using witness footage and local CCTV, cops traced White to a nearby accommodation and arrested him by mid-afternoon. Clothing linked to the assault was found in his room.
Police cracked down with extra stop-and-search powers. Agbata was caught and arrested nearby by 5pm.
“This was an extremely violent assault and it is only through sheer good fortune that the victim did not suffer far more serious injuries,” said Detective Constable Connie Baker of East Kent CID.
“Thanks to public help, officers arrested these men within hours. There is absolutely no place for knife crime in Kent. We will track down violent offenders and bring them to justice.”
